Potassium Nitrate - 250g

Price:  £5.99

Potassium Nitrate (KNO3) is a macro element for all aquatic plants which means that it is absolutely essential. A lack of KNO3 will result in poor plant health and algae. In non CO2 aquariums the addition of KNO3 is unnecessary - sufficient levels will be found in your tap water.

Contrary to belief nitrates do not cause algae in a planted aquarium. In high growth tanks such as those with CO2, KNO3 has to be added as it is absorbed and used up more quickly than a tank can produce it (from fish waste and plant breakdown).

If you wish to make a stock solution then add 40g to 500ml of water (preferably RO) and add 10ml per 100L of water - this would give you a value of 5ppm and you would dose 3 times a week when using the EI method.

Great product, essential for high light, CO2 injected tanks. Also very useful for less high tech planted tanks. When compared to conventional bottled products this works out a LOT less expensive. Added dry or dissolved and added in liquid form, this product gives you a lot more control for dosing the specific requirements of your tank (along with a good test kit!). I make big savings using this stuff and I only have 3 small (10 gallon or less) tanks. If you have larger tanks with a greater nutrient uptake it seems crazy to use anything else!
