Does Murdannia keisak develop red colouration?
Yes. Under medium light and CO2 it develops warm pink-red to coppery tones, particularly on new growth and the leaf undersides. Without CO2 it tends toward green.
Does it need CO2?
CO2 is recommended for the best growth and colouration. Without CO2 the plant grows more loosely and remains predominantly green rather than developing warm pink-red tones.
Is it easy to keep?
It is a manageable plant for hobbyists with medium light and ideally CO2. It is not one of the most demanding species but does best in a reasonably well-maintained planted aquarium.
Where should I position it in the aquarium?
It works well in the midground to background. Its fine texture and warm colouration provide a useful visual contrast to green stem plants and larger background species.
How do I propagate it?
Trim stems and replant the cuttings in the substrate. They root readily and continue growing, allowing you to build a full planting group over time.
