Potassium Phosphate (KPO4) is a macro element making it essential for aquarium plants. If you do not have sufficient levels of KPO4 then your plants will suffer. Classic deficiency signs are stunted growth, darker leaves and often root development will be very poor. KPO4 does not cause algae! Poor nutrient levels, with poor water distribution and minimal water changes do. In non CO2 tanks, the addition of KPO4 is not required as tap water normally has sufficient levels. However as soon as CO2 is added, KPO4 is required. If you wish to make a stock solution then add 15g to 500ml of water (preferably RO) and add 5ml per 100L of water - this would give you a value of 1ppm and you would dose 3 times a week when using the EI method.

Another great product for saving money when fertilizing planted aquariums. Phosphates need to be dosed a lot less than the other 2 macros (nitrate and potassium). Care must be taken as high phosphates can lead to huge algae problems. However when used correctly (with adaquate lighting, CO2, other fertilisers and in a well established nutrient sucking tank) this product can really improve plant growth and condition. Well worth getting! Just monitor phosphate levels closely and start sparingly adding more if necessary.
