One of the most popular aquarium plant by a long way the Eleocharis acicularis is a beautiful foreground plant that is the Found all over the world. this great little plant creates a carpet effect at the front of your tank.

Prefers cooler waters but still grows perfectly fine is warmer tanks. Given the right conditions this plant can grow up to 15cm in height, cut back severely and divide any dense palntings.

Good product, just wish my bunch of 'grass' had a slight bit more depth to it but I am sure it will grow in no time. Overall happy with the purchase.

I love this little grass, I've only had mine for a few days and it has already grown an inch! It arrived promptly with everything else I ordered and was in very good condition. I may consider getting more but for now I want to see how this little gem spreads. :)

The first batch of these made me want more for my tank. The plants split really well and are doing well in my tank. The second batch had some amazing height to them. Love the look of these plants. And Aqua Essentials continue to provide a brilliant service.

I wasn't sure about buying this grass but I did anyway, I'm very glad I did! it was the easiest plant I've had to get out of its pot etc and plant. I'd recommend this to anyone, my fish love it and they all look healthier for having a few more plants in the tank.

plant looks good in foreground of my tank - wish I had bought a few more to make more of an impact, but it looks as though it will spread quite well. I was concerned about planting it as previous attempts with this plant bought elsewhere resulted it lots of plantlets becoming seperated and looking messy. But so far this looks good.

I've just bought this eleocharis as well as some other plants from aqua-essentials and I have to say I'm very impressed. The quality and the amount (plant per pot) is unmatched by any other retailer far suppressing that of any of the big brands I've bought from before. The three pots of elecharis was plenty to fill my 15l iwagumi and it's already spreading after four days after planting. They arrived promptly by courier and were packaged well using recycled material along with a free company catalogue and a leaflet of great care tips for novices and experts alike!

Guest
Would this plant do well in a 20 litre aquarium with no CO2?

Guest
How many centimetres of substrate does this plant require, and will it still grow with no CO2 or nutrient rich substrate?

Staff
It's fine for a 20l tank and is ok without CO2

Staff
Like all plants they like a substrate of 2 inches or more depth and will always do better with a nutrient rich substrate and CO2. However they can survive without both.

Guest
When you plant this plant, do you need to trim the roots and if so, how much do you need to trim?

Guest
The product description states that this plant needs to be kept in a medium to high light environment. Does that mean that it requires more hours or light, or does it mean that the light has to be brighter?

Staff
You can trim the roots but its not necessary

Staff
It means the intensity, not duration of light.

Guest
Should plants be left in or take out of their pots when planting?

Staff

Always take them out of their pots and split the plant into 4 or more. Remove as much rockwool as possible - this can be done by running it under the tap.

Guest
Please could you advise on the diameter of the pots that these come in?

Staff
All potted plants on our site are 5cm diameter

Guest
does it come with the little pot as well

Staff
Of course - but you'd remove that when placing in your tank

Guest
HI I would like to order 20 pots of this plant, as I have a 48in by 15in tank so when you get that amont in can you let me know please. Dale

Staff

Sure Dale - about 100 are arriving tomorrrow :)

Use the back in stock notification for an automated email when they arrive

Guest
Hi, I have a 125L aquarium (81x36) and would like to carpet around 75% of the aquarium. With this in mind, how many of these plants would you recommend? Cheers

Staff
1 pot is good for approx 15cm2 You therefore need 11 pots

Guest
I have a 100 litre gravel tank. With NO co2 system. Would it be ok to plant this into the gravel and will it be ok?

Staff
It will be fine - just wont grow quick

Guest
whats the best way to get a carpet with hair grass ??

Staff

CO2 and lots of fertilisers

Guest
hi wants the height of the hairgrass compared to dwarf hairgrass as would like to use this as background plant and dwarf hairgrass for foreground

Staff

About 4inches so definitely not a background plant!

Guest
I want a plant that will carpet quite quickly and not grow too tall, I only have medium sized gravel, approx 5-10mm diameter, no other substrate, I use Neutro , Neutro CO2 and pressurised CO2, will this plant grow in regular gravel?

Staff

Yeah sure it will, just not as well as plants in finer gravel. 5-10mm is very big really.

Guest
i have a 30L tank, and want the hairgrass to cover the whole thing how many pots do u advise i buy so it carpets the whole tank in a few weeks time

Staff

Use 1 pot per 15cm2

Guest
which carpets better this or HC??

Staff

Both the same

Guest
i have moler clay as my substrate and as it is light it tends to loose its slopes and go flat over time, so i want to carpet it with this and see if the routes will hold it in place, what is the depth of the routes?

Staff

It may help but not a great deal. Few foreground plants have deep roots.
