Why does Eco-Complete™ planted aquarium substrate outperform other products? The secret lies in rich basaltic volcanic soil which contains iron, calcium, magnesium, potassium, sulfur plus over 25 other elements to nourish your aquatic plants.

Eco-Complete™ Planted Aquarium Substrate is mineralogically and biologically complete, giving you luxuriant aquatic plant growth without nuisance algae! Iron rich Eco‑Complete™ eliminates the need for laterite. No artificial dyes, paints, or chemical coatings. Eco-Complete™ has highly porous spherical grains for optimum diffusion performance and contains live Heterotrophic bacteria to rapidly convert fish waste into natural food for your aquatic plants. It establishes a natural biological balance which makes cycling a new aquarium faster and safer.

Question:

How long does the Eco-Complete™ Planted substrate remain effective for or after what period of time will I need to replace it?

Answer:

Eco-Complete™ Planted is a geologically recent basaltic volcanic material. Since it is not a weathered product such as clays or laterites it will stay active over the life of the aquarium, will not break down into a mud, and does not need to be replaced.

Question:

Hi i was wondering how long does the Eco-Complete™ Planted last in a tank and also is it ok to add like a samd on top or will that defeat the purpose of the Eco-Complete™ Planted and lastly does Eco-Complete™ Planted take in the nutrients from the water column and feed the roots with it cause im gonna fertilize the water column and need a substrate that will do that.

Answer:

Eco-Complete™ Planted will last indefinitely. It won’t break down or turn to mud. Eco-Complete™ Planted will supply trace elements that the plant needs but does not supply a fertilizer component ie. N,P or K. You either need to add the fertilizer or have fish in there that you feed regularly.

I have had this substrate in my tank for less than two weeks and I can already see a marked difference in growth rate on my plants. Simply Brilliant.

I have had 5 bags of this substrate in my 54 gallon Fluval Osaka planted discus tank for 3 years now, and I have to say my plants just love it! The black colour I have found is not true black, but more of a grey. (Perhaps it is my lights..) I am more than satisfied with it's affinity for my plants. Discus also enjoy nosing around in this substrate with my cories and bottom feeders.. It's great stuff.

As a complete novice I chose this substrate for my new aquascaping attempt and saw new growth appearing on the plants I had trimmed and planted within days. The black substrate really shows off the vibrant colours of my healthy plants and a single bag was ample for my 64 litre tank.

Brilliant substrate. After a novice error of choosing gravel, coupled with a pre-made 'carpet' of HC , my tank was ruined as the gravel went completely black. Had to re-home my fish into a smaller tank & the rest of my beloved plants withered & died. After 6 hours of using this eco complete the tank was crystal & I mean crystal clear, no washing off before hand.New plants are at early stages, but no yellowing of leaves & I am getting oxygen bubbles on my new riccia with the CO2 turned off & only low lighting. Expensive- yes - worth it - oh yes. Highly recommended

is this product meant to be used purely on its on as a substrate, or is it meant for the 1st layer and supposed to be covered with sand/gravel ?

Staff
It's a complete substrate so does not require topping.

Guest
can you put topping on if you want to change the colour

Staff

yes

Guest
I have read reviews by some saying you can add this substrate directly to the tank without needing to rinse it first and others saying it should be rinsed first and the liquid in the bag it comes in thrown away!! Could you please tell me which is true please.

Staff
Don't rinse! No need

Guest
Would this be ok to add to an up and running setup, just mixing into the existing gravel?

Staff

If you pour it slowly in then yes

I have a 125l tank, how many bags would I need. I would like it around 4cm depth. Is it worth putting aquasoil under it?

Staff

2-3 bags

1 bag is enough for 50L.

No need for anything underneath it

I am thinking of using Eco-complete in a rebuild of my 200 litre tank with compressed CO2

Staff
Ok - was there a question?

Guest
I'm thinking of setting up a tank with a 4' x 2' footprint. Separate areas of Ecocomplete and Unipac sand. How many 9kg bags woould be required to fill 4x2 to a depth of say 2-3 inches, and how much unipac sand for each 1'x1' area to say 1 inch depth? Thanks

Staff

1 bag per 50L same for Unipac 12.5kg bags.

i have siversand about 8 ins deep will have to remove it to start agin or can add the right subtrate

Staff

I would remove it

Guest
I have a lot of Cory's in my tank that constantly 'dig'. Not a problem with my fine rounded gravel but would it be a problem with this, cloudiness etc?

Staff

this product will not be a problem for fish that like to dig.

Guest
Can this substrate be used in conjunction with an under-gravel filter system or is it too fine?

Staff

I don't recommend under gravel filtration for any planted aquarium.

Guest
will this alter the Ph of my water

Staff

No
