Description
Bacopa monnieri is one of the most widely used stem plants in the hobby, and deservedly so — it is genuinely tolerant of a wide range of lighting, temperature, and water conditions that would trouble many other plants. The small, rounded leaves grow on upright stems that can reach 50cm, and in good conditions the plant will occasionally produce delicate white to pale pink flowers above the waterline.
Growth can be managed easily by pinching out the top shoots: the plant responds by branching freely, producing a bushy, compact form. It also grows well in the shade of larger plants, making it useful in aquariums where light doesn't reach evenly across the tank. CO2 is not required, though it speeds up growth noticeably.
Plant stems in small groups directly into the substrate. Trim regularly to maintain the shape you want and replant the trimmings to fill in gaps in the scape.

This aquatic plant arrives in healthy condition with "big healthy potted stems" and is praised for quick delivery. Customers said it's "great quality" that works well in low-tech, non-CO2 tanks. Growth is steady but requires patience as it's a "slow grower." One customer noted rotting at the bottom. Fish often leave it intact, and it spreads nicely when planted.
- Good quality plants. They arrived in great condition and are now sending out new roots and leaves.
- Big healthy potted stems that are growing really well.

Nice little plant
Big healthy potted stems that are growing really well.
Lovely plants. Quarantined and found no hitchhikers. I got them for my terrapin tank. Unfortunately, my terrapin destroyed within 24hrs. They were nice while they lasted.
Bought these for my goldfish tank and now that they've had weeks to settle in, I can confirm they are good quality plants. They arrived in great condition and are now sending out new roots and leaves. 100% recommend!
Taller then I thought they'd be! Really pretty, and nice to plant as a little cluster.
Lovely plants and quick delivery. Would recommend.
Looks good but rotted at the bottom, I wouldn't buy it again.
Again these arrived in very good healthy condition. They took a little while to root but are now nicely established and growing well
Love this plant, the gold fish don't like it so both plants are still whole (ish) the loach is indifferent to it, but because of all the new shoots and growth coming through the basket, we buried it in the substrate with the basket. Spreading well and looking healthy.
Great plant in top condition
Hardy and looks great.
all the plants I've bought with aqua, have been the highest standard, you get help, advice, and everything you expect from a firm of this standard.why go elsewhere ,when you have the very best here.
kind regards
nick best
I received a good bunch of healthy stems, which have been growing away happily in my low tech, medium light tank. Really healthy looking plants.
Arrived quickly an a good healthy plant too. Doing well so far, will use aqua essentials again.
So far so good!
Really nice looking plant, I have it in my low light, non-CO2 tank and it's performing just fine. It does seem to be a slow grower, so patience is required. I've just placed a couple of root tabs beneath this to encourage new growth. I may have trimmed too early, and it took a good week before there were any signs of new growth from where they had been trimmed. I got a good number of stems from each pot ordered.
Arrived well packed. Growing well in my tank.
great health well rooted. Dont know if it was grown submerged or emersed but grew perfectly in the tank with no dieback
This plant looks good, I broke mine down to several individual stems and planted 1\" apart. Wasn\'t totally sure I\'d done the right thing but my fish, especially my Danios love weaving in and out of the stems. 3 weeks in and I have already halved stalks and replanted to thicken the area. looks good at the front side of my tank amongst rock and stones.
A great looking plant fantastic
great plant , got 3 plants from one good condition fast delivery , well packed will be using you again
Good value plant. It is very pretty and grows quickly.
The one I purchased was big enough to split into 4 clumps and each have grown noticeably within a couple of weeks.
Product FAQs
Helpful details before you buy.
How tolerant is Bacopa monnieri?
Very — it handles a wide range of conditions including low light, no CO2, varying temperatures, and different water hardnesses. An excellent choice for any aquarium.
How do I keep it compact?
Pinch out the top growing shoots regularly. The plant responds by branching laterally, producing a bushy, compact form rather than a single tall stem.
Does it flower?
Yes — in good conditions it produces delicate white to pale pink flowers above the waterline. A sign of a very healthy, well-settled plant.
Does it need CO2?
No — it grows fine without CO2, though it will grow faster and more densely with it.
How do I propagate it?
Trim stems and replant the cuttings directly into the substrate. They establish quickly and readily.
