Inert Gravel

A tasteful and subtle mix of gravel ranging from 1-2mm in size. This gravel is to be placed in the base of the aquarium as a bed to house plants and provides a base for rocks, stones and other aquatic ornaments.

This versatile gravel can be used in aquariums, terrariums or even planters.

This 10kg bag is suitable for aquariums of approximately 70L.

We recommend you rinse the sand in a little cold water to remove any dust and particles before placing in the aquarium.

Colour: Subtle shades of white, cream and pale gray.

An attractive looking aquarium awaits you...

Speedy delivery but on arrival both bags of gravel slit open in transit. Very fragile box and because the gravel was wringing wet it had started to eat the cardboard and was leaking from the corner of the box.Have had to wash the gravel in huge amounts of water to get it clean of the cardboard packing used around it in the box.I had hoped for it to be a tad easier than this.

Looks great in my 260 litre tank and very easy to pre clean, not much dust in there compared to say Pea gravel.

Beautiful sand. Not pure white which is why I bought it, looks absolutely stunning in the aquarium and is easy to work with (not too small or too big). Does require regular cleaning, the sand turns brown from detritus quite easily.

Looks fantastic. I was going for sand that wasn't bright white, but wasn't quite your standard play sand colour. I am very impressed with this. However I do feel aquaessentials would benefit from a picture of the sand in an actual aquarium setup.

Ask a question about this product
Hi, does this sand raise or lower any water parameters, especially hardness? Thanks

Maybe slightly but nothing of any concern

Will this sand be suitable for goldfish? Thanks

Fine for goldfish

I added this sand to my aquarium in late June, a month later my waters PH went from 7.5 to 8.0, I ruled out everything else in the tank by removing and adding each rock and tested this sand on its own in a container by adding tap water @ 7.5 PH, after a week standing the PH measured 8.0, so it does alter PH and 0.5 is a significant margin. It doesn't seem to be bothering my Zebra Danios but now I am thinking twice about adding Neon Tetras because I am told they like a PH between 6.5 to 7.5. So, my question is, would it be safe for Neon Tetras?

It is a natural product so may have a slight effect on your tank but in a typical set up an alteration like this doesn't normally effect plants or fish
