Micranthemum 'Monte-Carlo' comes from cooler waters in Europe and Eastern Asia.It has compact, round and fresh light green leaves on creeping stalks and creates a fast-growing carpet in the front of the aquarium. The leaves are ½-1cm and somewhat bigger than e. g. Hemianthus Callitrichoides ”Cuba”. Planted in small bundles in the bottom bed. The plant can grow in light shadow under other plants, but requires good light conditions, as well as CO2 additive, in order to develop optimally and become really compact.

Though the leaves and stems, whilst small, were very healthy, the issue is when you come to plant it. There are no roots to speak of and even when cutting the mat into smaller squares to plant, when pushing into the substrate, the individual plants come loose and end up floating. I have more floating in my tank than actually planted. Wi never buy or recommend this again. When I complained to Aquaessentials, was unhelpfully told: "The TC version of monte is certainly trickier than the potted in terms of planting. But once it starts to grow, it’s an easy plant which is undemanding. The trick to this plant in the TC form is to leave it in clumps and then push it deep into the substrate - otherwise it has a tendency to float. Try sprinkling substrate or gravel gently over the top which helps hold it down. The potted version is easier as you can leave rock wool on it which allows it to be anchored down making it less likely to float." This would have been useful information fo

Tropica 1-2 Grow are the best in the business. Highly recommended. Aqua Essentials are amazing to do business with, excellent products at a good price.
