Hemianthus callitrichoides is one of the smallest aquarium plants in the world, and creeps over the bottom with millimetre-sized round leaves. If planted in small clumps a few centimetres apart, it will spread rapidly and cover the bottom like a carpet. Hemianthus callitrichoides is an attractive foreground plant for small aquariums. Found on Cuba west of Havana.

It planted well and was a couple of weeks in… then it was looking so tasty that my Siamese Algae Eaters decided to eat it. All trashed in two days. Deffo needs a lot of light to do well, and CO2, and a well fertilised substrate, if you do that then you can’t fail. Unless your fish eat the lot over a few days… Hemianthus micranthemoides is a better choice for me as it roots quicker and my SAEs don’t eat it faster than it grows!

Ask a question about this product
Hi, Do you know when you will be getting this back in stock? Thanks, Dan

Not for another week. Tropica are out of stock.

We have lots of the potted variety in though only £2.99 per pot

Can you tell me know many of these i would need to cover a 0.75m2 area?

1 pot is sufficient for a size of 15x15cm

So you would need 25 pots :)

Does this plant require CO2 and high light?

it requires CO2 - pls see our icons on the right which explain what each plant needs :)

What would be the best substrate to plant this into? I currently have Colombo Flora-Base Brown but i feel the grains are to large and might need more of a powered substrate?

Tropica powder substrate is best for hemianthus

Hi, can you attach this plant to wood with Flourish Glue :)
