This plant will perish with any frost so if the weather has a cold snap, beware! We cannot credit you should this happen as your Pistia will dehydrate rapidly overnight and melt. We only guarantee quality when it arrives and after that, it's up to you. It's best to keep them inside in a bucket until you're sure about the weather (generally May onwards but your call).

Get your pond ready for the summer and keep it algae free - the natural way. Ideal for outdoor ponds or open-top aquariums.

Like water hyacinth, water lettuce is a useful plant for keeping the pond free of algae in the spring and early summer months when the water lilies and other aquatic plants are still getting going. It is helpful as it outcompetes algae for nutrients in the water, thereby preventing massive algae blooms.

It is a tropical floating plant, and so will die off completely and for good in winter, but it will multiply rapidly during the summer if the pond water is sufficiently rich in nutrients. If you want it to survive the winter, bring it inside where it's warmer.

It is a good plant for container water gardens as well which look great on a window sill or a bowl in your kitchen - a refreshing difference to cut flowers.

DIRECTIONS - PLEASE READ:

When the plant arrived with you, spray it with water. It needs to rehydrate. Roots are often detached during transport - don't worry about this as it's very common. The plant doesn't really like to be shipped. Roots grow back.

Please do not forget to mist heavily. Repeat every day for 5 days. Twice a day is best or until you feel the leaves and you can feel the moisture in them. Wilting one's or very soft leaves need more misting.

Note: If you forget or can't be bothered to mist, this plant isn't for you. It does need some TLC when it arrives. Once established and as long as it's warm, it will grow quickly without misting.
