Description

One of the most popular 'Amazon-swords' the Echinodorus bleheri'  can grow up to 50-60 cm in height and the mature plants can have up to 50 leaves, each growing around 3-6cm in size. Also known as Echinodorus paniculatus it's really easy to grow and will require little care for hobbyists making it perfect for beginners and up.Because this aquarium plant grow large, it's often used as a focal point so bare that in mind. However in larger tanks they look better placed behind stones.

In a CO2 infused tank, you'll be amazed at how quick new leaves grow and if you look carefully you will also see tiny oxygen bubbles coming from the leaves, another indication that it's growing fast.

Lovely plant good roots wrapped in a coconut type matting helps to protect the roots in the tank from my destructive fish.

Great plants bought on offer, so well packed and in good condition.

Appears to be slow growing, but looking lush and vibrant and has taken to my low light non-CO2 tank well. One plant was able to be split into 4 smaller plants which have been planted close to each other, hopefully to take over that entire corner of my tank. Couple of root tabs beneath seemed to have helped this plant settle in nicely.

Hi, ive had this in my current 60l nature tank for about 3 years. Its a central focul point in the tank, however my foreground plants seem to struggle because it grows so big. Any suggestions for pruning, im currently nipping away the older leaves from the outside and letting the newer leaves come up from the middle ?

Staff
Carry on doing what you are. Just pull out the leaves that you don't want - it's the only way to control the beast.

This may sound like a silly question but i only keep goldfish, i have a large tank and 4 fish. I usually get my foliage from pets at home but there is no longer one near to me. Are all these plants safe to put in with goldfish?

Staff

yes all are plants are 'safe'

If I order some of these plants (Echinodorus bleheri), how tall will they be when I receive them? It's just that I'd like to get a few tall sword plants (hopefully 12 to 18 inches ). It's just that I've recently ordered some of these plants from another supplier and was extremely disapointed when I received them, because they all turned out to be less than 6 inches tall. I really want to avoid that sort of problem with my next purchase. Also, if your stock of this plant is just too short for my expectations, please recommend an alternative that is closer to my required height.

Staff

currently our largest is 8inches. plants dont grow as big in the winter but grow much larger in the summer. you could try the hormani

Hi plant is growing well but has a lot of black algae on leaves, could you advise why this might be

Staff

Algae is generally caused by too much light in your tank and not enough nutrients. I would suggest you lower your lighting to 6 hours a day, increase your nutrients and your water changes :-)

I have a sand only Subtrate. Would this plant flourish with root tabs and added liquid co2? Thanks.

Staff

It should be fine - just make sure you add a decent fertiliser to the water like Neutro T as well as liquid carbon and root tabs.

Hi are your plants snail free? Thanks

Staff

They're kept above the water line which minimises snails, but if you want a cast iron guarantee, then you need to buy tissue culture plants that we sell on the website.

I SEE FROM ABOVE YOUR PLANTS ARE GROWN OUT OF WATER DOES THIS MEAN THEY WILL DIE BACK WHEN PLANTED IN MY TANK , IF SO THERE ANY WAY TO AVOID THIS.

Staff

There's no reason why they would die back in water - quite the opposite in reality
