Description

large pieces only

Dragon Stone is a desirable aquarium rock most often used in aquascaping planted aquariums.

A soft rock with incredible grooves and crevases created by mother nature. Often longer than they are wide they can be placed easily within a substrate.

  • Colours vary with shades of brown
  • Minimal effect on pH
  • Easy to place
  • Gives immediate impact to any aquarium

Dragon Stone has become very popular with iwagumi aquariums where the main focus is on the rocks and the plants complement the over all set up. World famous Aquascaper Oliver Knott uses these rocks with great effect in many of his set ups.

Hobbyists are often amazed at these aquarium rocks as their texture is unlike any other rock on the market making them very special. When placed in groups they have maximum effect and plants really complement them.

If you have a particular size, shape or style in mind, feel free to leave notes in the comments section when checking out and the picking team will try to match it as closely as possible. However please note a typical piece of Dragon Stone weighs approximately 2kgs.

Recommended Size Guide:

50L - 10kgs
100L - 20kgs

So if you're thinking 'Maybe I should' please do! You simply can't lose with these rocks.

This rock looks great in my tank. The pieces I got look considerably more red/orange when in water. It's a soft rock and comes in large pieces (I guess you could specify smaller pieces). I ordered 8 KG for a 55 litre tank and I only have about 50% in there now, I received 2 huge pieces and a few smaller bits. People have said that it's smooth in the inside if you break it, I have found this not to be true it is just as pitted and knobbly in the inside. Just make sure that you clean it well as it is full of sediment.

Ordered 15kg for 180L tank, some really nice sized bits and enough to pick and choose best for layout. Need to wash with power hose to get rid of clay and get it looking its best

hi, i have a 60l aquarium, 60cm x 30cm, how many would you recommend I order?

Staff
I recommend 8-10kgs as this will give you something to play with and see what looks best in your tank.

Hi i have a juwel rio 300, and im wondering how much i will need to order to have a few large pieces aswell as some medium and small?

Staff
30kgs for a tank of your size. In that you would receive a fantastic mix of small, medium and large pieces :)

Guest
Hi guys, I'm looking for pieces pretty much like under this link http://www.aquascapingworld.com/threads/my-first-iwagumi-juwel-rio-125.4441/ Is there any way I could select or see the pieces first?

Guest
I want to create a Iwagumi scape for a 30 litre cube. How many will I need to order?

Staff

We can probably arrange something like that for you - add 15kgs to your basket and leave a comment when chcecking out that you're after pieces similar to the link.

We cannot send pictures of what we pick for customers though - sorry

Staff

For a 30L cube you would need 6kgs (approx)

I am interested in purchasing some of this rock and was wondering if you have any idea when this will be back in stock? Thanks

Staff
Not til January now

Guest
hi im wondering is the stones change the hardness of water?

Staff

like most rocks, they increase the pH by adding minerals to the water - some more than others. But certainly not something that causes concern.

Guest
My water is already between pH 7.8 and 8.0 which is already a little high. Will adding several pieces of this rock increase it further?

Staff
A little but not much - why not use Superfish Peat Plus to reduce pH http://www.aquaessentials.co.uk/superfish-peat-plus-800ml-p-5318.html

Guest
I have a 45 gallon tank and would like to know witch i would need. Thanks

Staff

depends what you are trying to achieve. Try 20kgs.

Guest
hi I was just wondering the size(dimensions/diameter) of a 1kg piece of dragonstone as im trying to work out how much ill need, for what I want to create. thanks

Staff

Hard to tell as you could have a fat rock which is 20x20cm or a long piece that is 30x5cm - both might weigh the same...

Guest
When are you getting more of this in stock?I want to get 12kg of rock but I can't because there isn't enough in stock.

Staff

Tomorrow :-)

Guest
Hi. How much would 3 pieces weight to do iwagumi in my rio 125? Thanks

Staff

You would need a lot more than 3 pieces as the rock isn't that big. Try 20kgs which would give you something to work with. Then simply stack up the pieces you like to create a traditional iwagumi layout.

Guest
Thanks for quick reply. Do you have any rock that 3 pieces would make it? Mike

Staff

Maybe the giant lava rock but nothing else. Most people just stack the rock and it looks fine

Hi, I want to keep malawi cichlids and want to create the ideal aquascape, I have a juwel Vision 260. I would like some really large pieces. What's the largest sizes you do? How much rock is need to give a good look? Thanks Andy

Staff

In a 260 you would need about 40kgs to create a decent scape for cichlids. Largest is about 30cm on average. Rocks stack well but you can use putty (also sold on the site) to make sure they don't topple over.

Guest
hi, how many kg of rock would i need for the fluvial spec 19l aquarium to create an iwagumi aquascape

Guest
Hello, how many pieces/kg of rock would I need to create an iwagumi aquascape in a FLUVAL EDGE 46LTR TANK, bearing in mind the cube shape nature of the tank and its limited top opening?

Staff

Try 7kgs - this should give you enough to work with. But the more rock you have, the happier you will be with the results.

Guest
Is this rock porous or will it be fine for my hosptial tank?

Staff

Possibly. Use mini landscape rock instead

Guest
I bought some of this rock a week or so ago. There was glue which was tough to get off on the back. Is this a problem?

Staff
