Description

Originating from Southeast Asia the Cyperus helferi is an unusual yet wonderful aquatic plant with its long and slender leaves that shine with bright greens. Successful cultivation calls for good lighting and adequate supply of CO2.

This plant is great for planting amongst wood or rock. This is a midground plant, but be aware, it can reach up to 40cm in height.

Great background plant and boy, does it grow!

Fantastic, previously reviewed as wasn’t as full as expected but loved the quality so purchased again and it was perfect. So good I’ve ordered a third bunch. Looks stunning, thanks as always.

I had hoped it would look like it did in the photo but was no where near as full. But as usual top quality and growing fast enough that I’ll have enough to split it soon. Still giving 5 stars as it’s the only slight let down I’ve had on this site and it’s still a nice healthy plant and will be fun to grow.

I purchased a few of these plants for a new tank and the leaves are going brown, all my other plants I got from you seem to be thriving, Help!!!

Staff

Tell me more about your tank. Size, lighting duration, fertilisers, substrate, CO2 etc etc

I have set up a 10gallon beta tank, 15 watt lighting (on for 12hrs), Unipac Black Micro Aquarium Gravel, used tetra plantamin, no co2, but i seem be getting brown algae.

Staff
Try adding Neutro CO2 and keep lighting to 8 hours per day

What's the best way to prune these? One bunch I had, I cut down to an inch but it did not grow back. The tips are going brown therefore I would like to trim it a little. 8h light, C02, and lots of fertilizer is available.

Staff

Tear leaves off at the base. Don't cut the leaves.

I have had this in my tank almost a week now and it is starting to go yellow at the top spreading downwards . lights on 6 and a half hours a day , ferts are vimi all in one and micro also vimi acelerator. temperature 24 ?

Staff

Add more ferts. Your plants are giving you a very clear message they need more food.

Hi.I really like the look of this plant and would love to add this to my tank.I'm just running low tech at the moment using Neutro CO2 and fertiliser daily. My plants are looking good but my Vallis unfortunately melted and i know liquid carbon can do this when added unlike pressurised CO2 which i hope to upgrade to soon.Would this plant fare better and be more tolerant with liquid carbon if i purchased some and added them to my tank? I really need some tall grass like plants like these that look amazing in the flow.

Staff

Yes it's fine with liquid carbon.

Is this a species that you stock regularly? As it is currently unavailable.

Staff

We try to but sometimes the growers run out for long periods. Check back Thursday when more should arrive.

Would you recommend this plant as a background plant in a jewel rio 180. Thanks

Staff

Absolutely

Is this suitable for a cold water aquarium? I am about to set up my first planted tank.

Staff

No. It's a tropical plant.

Guest
Could you recommend another grassy variety that's suitable for a cold water?

Staff

We don't have any plants that are suitable for coldwater apart from this one https://www.aquaessentials.co.uk/ceratophyllum-demersum-bunch-p-6702.html

Hi! Had these plants for a while and are growing well but how do you trim them? I don't think you can cut them. How do I thin them out they're are getting really long!

Staff

Tear leaves off at the base. Don't cut the leaves. :-)

Guest
Do this plant spread with runners like the vallisneria does? And can I split one potted plant into many to plant separetly as a background plant? 60cm tall aquarium

Staff

yes. Difficult to split when it's potted though.
