Cryptocoryne wendtii  is a medium sized water trumpet. Reaching heights of up to 15cm. Below the surface the leaves will be a chocolate brown, where as above the surface they are rust brown. You can create a bonsia look to these plants by planting in a clay pot, then press the pot directly into the substrate. By limiting the space for the roots you keep the plant smaller.

As with most crypts this plant needs little attention and will happily grow under low lighting.

Understanding Crypt melt - all Cryptocoryne species require stable water parameter and light conditions. Once planted, Crypts should not be moved otherwise it can trigger what is called Crypt melt. If a Crypt has a significant change of environment (ph, kh, gh, lighting intensity or duration, root disturbance etc), Crypt melt can be triggered. The leaves start to disintegrate as the plant prepares for its new environment - DO NOT WORRY! Your plant will begin to grow back over the next 30 days (sometimes sooner, sometimes later) - it's still very much alive and busy getting ready for the growth of new leaves. In the meantime, any decaying leaves should be trimmed and recycled in a compost bin.

I'm astonished how much this has grown in just two weeks. It recovered fast from the transit, and is now looking almost twice as big as I remember it when it arrived.

An attractive mid-tank plant that always does well. I like the sword-shaped leaves, and this variety has a lovely brownish hue too.

This is the second batch I have tried, and they are doing well. I like the arrow-shaped bronze-coloured leaves which create a lovely mid-height interest. However, my boisterous fishes tended to keep knocking them over, despite my efforts at anchoring the pots, and some of the leaves have yellowed. I have moved them to the 'plant aquarium'., and they seem happier.
