Description

Cryptocoryne lutea is one of the easiest Cryptocoryne species from Sri Lanka to care for. The new dwarf form, Hobbit, was isolated from a normal sized plant in the greenhouse and further propagated in the laboratory. Growing to a height of just a few centimetres, this Cryptocoryne is ideal for even the smallest aquaria. The growth rate is also significantly slower than that of the stem form. With good lighting, the leaves become a deep purplish-brown colour and make a nice contrast to other green foreground plants.

Understanding Crypt melt - all Cryptocoryne species require stable water parameter and light conditions. Once planted, Crypts should not be moved otherwise it can trigger what is called Crypt melt. If a Crypt has a significant change of environment (ph, kh , gh, lighting intensity or duration, root disturbance etc), Crypt melt can be triggered. The leaves start to disintegrate as the plant prepares for its new environment - DO NOT WORRY! Your plant will begin to grow back over the next 30 days (sometimes sooner, sometimes later) - it's still very much alive and busy getting ready for the growth of new leaves. In the meantime, any decaying leaves should be trimmed and recycled in a compost bin.

Liked the look of this cryptocoryne for quite a while. It is small, but if you could describe a plant as having character then Hobbit is full of character !

I bought three of these pots and split them into sixteen nice little plants for the foreground of a nano aquarium.
