Description

Again one of the most popular planted aquarium plants, this little beauty will transform your tank. The Hemianthus callitrichoides originated from Cuba, west of Havana and is one of the smallest aquarium plants. With round leaves that are only millimeter's in size.

If planted in clumps a few cm's apart it will spread rapidly creating a carpet look over the bottom. Lots of attention required but the reward is definitely worth the effort.

A very good plant and very good value for money as you can split it and get very good coverage from just one plant a lot nicer than having just gravel on the bottom of the tank very effective look's great well packed no damage and fast delivery what more could you ask for

by John D. on 3/12/2016

This plant is an ideal way of making the tank look very nice on the gravel and will look great when it gets established i like the plant as you can split it into more and put them in so you can get a better result in my eyes it is a lot of plant for very little money well worth it and the team at Aqua Essentials are very informative which makes it very well worth buying of them

This is a great plant especially for carpeting one of my favourite

by Pippa Gander on 22/6/2016

Lovely plant ... great condition and looks good in the tank.

by David Grubb on 27/4/2016

Very healthy plant upon arrival and well packaged. I really struggle with growing baby tears, I've had some success but I never manage to get the carpet that I'm trying to grow. This is no reflection upon the quality of the plant.

Does this plant carpet well? I'm looking for something that stays low.

Guest
would this plant manage with natural light and a low level lamp?

Staff

Yes it carpets very well given the correct conditions. In fact this is one of the reasons it's so popular because of the way it carpets beautifully.

Staff

Sadly not. It likes medium to high light and CO2 in order to flourish.

Guest
does it need CO2?

Staff

Yes, it needs CO2 - lots of it preferably

Guest
does this plant grow well in gravel

Staff

providing you give it good CO2 and fertilisers yes. It will do better in a complete substrate like Colombo Flora-Base

Guest
Would it grow ok with easycarbo 2.2w per gallon lighting and ferts? I'm not too concerned how long it takes to carpet I just don't want it to die.

Staff
Probably not. HC needs CO2 and by that I mean pressurised

i am planning a iwagumi aquascape in a aquanano40 55ltr tank (40cmx40cmx40cm) how many.much of this plant would you recommend purchasing in order to provide full even coverage of the aquascape. thnx

Staff
1 pot is enough for an area 15x15cm so in an area 45x45cm you would need 9 pots :)

Guest
hi there i am the same person who asked the question above, i am wondering if the lighting that comes standard with the aquanano 40 would be powerful enough for baby dwarf tears, it is an 18w light for a 55 ltr tank

Staff
It's not lighting that is so important for this plant but CO2 - this is far more important

I have a 75 gallon drilled tank with sump, I have 200 lbs. of eco-complete as a substrate. My light is a 6500k full spectrum led, made by Current. I do have a CO-2 System in place with a ISTA max mix CO-2 reactor, power by 250gph pump. Is this setup efficient for this plant to grow well??

Staff
Sounds like it's ready for some HC!

Guest
In the description, it says 10cm x 10cm patch. In these questions, it shoots up to 15cm. Which is it? and can you tell me the diameter of the pot that they arrive in. Thank you.

Staff

Each pot is enough for approx 10-15cm square area.

Pot diameter is 5cm.

How can I stop this from floating to the surface ....planted in flora base but lifts when pearling...floating around the tank like a magic carpet ..

Staff

Plant it with some of the rockwool attached. Otherwise it has a habit of floating.

Guest
Thanks for the tip...but tried that...can I use a metal to weigh it down ? Lead ? The roots are long but the substrate offers little grip !

Staff

sounds like you need it to use more rockwool in the beginning. Try anything that might help way it down.

Guest
Would this plant be ok with liquid co2 such as easylife`s easycarbo??

Staff

Nope - needs pressurised CO2 to survive

Guest
any idea when this will be back in stock thanks.

Staff

friday

Guest
How do I plant it I don't understand

Staff

cut it into 4 to 6 pieces and then plant it

Guest
Do I cut some of the stem of then for the rest of the stem shall I dig it into my gravel and let it grow from there?

Staff

leave about 1cm of rockwool below the stems, then simply chop the rest up into 4-6 pieces. Then plant into substrate.

Guest
how many pots do i need for a 30L,30cm wide, 30cm back to front and 35cm high

Staff

4 pots

Guest
Will HC carpet over sand with a nutrient layer beneath the sand?

Staff

If you provide it with lots of CO2 and Neutro+ and good circulation, then yes!

Guest
Can I use this plant to attach to crevasses, holes in bog-wood. I require a plant to add colour to wood, any advice would be appreciated. John

Staff

I would advise an Anubias or a Microsorium

Guest
Would two 18w T8 tubes provide enough light?

Staff

With HC, it's not so much about the light, but more about the CO2 levels which are FAR MORE important.

Guest
I have recently bought a liquid C02, it recommends 2.0 ml a day, would this be suitable?

Staff

Go by the instructions - always.
