Description

Originating from Madagascar the Aponogeton ulvaceus Bulb is a beautiful centre piece for your tank. This bulb has bright green vellum-like, heavy crimpled leaves. The older bulbs can grow up to 50 leaves given the right conditions!!!!

This plant grows QUICKLY in the aquarium too under basic conditions. We provide it will very little light and it grows even with little water movement. We've tried it under faster water movement and it loves that too which means this plant is suitable for beginners and up.

In terms of positioning, obviously the background is the only suitable location. Simply drop it into the chosen location and leave it be. It will throw roots down and anchor itself.

Superb bulb. Came with 3 small leaves. 2 weeks later about 7 leaves some of which are 30cm high. Highly recommend fast growing plant.

Dropped the bulb in the tank as instructed and noted it was upside down. The next day it had somehow righted itself and started to grow roots and leaves! Very impressive!

Hi, im not familiar with bulb plants never used them before, i have an area of rootwood that sits onto of my substrate if i dropped a buld ontop of the root wood would it grow up through the rootwood. Currently i have plants around all the root wood and some mosses on the branches but id like to get something growing around the wood, any suggestions ?

Yep - that would work a treat.

id really like 1 of these for my 125 liter low tech , but feel its going to be too big . what are your thoughts on this ?

Staff
It will be fine in a tank of that size

After about 5 weeks in my tank I now have 4 flower spikes but have read from others that these can be quite invasive. As I have a closed tank, should I cut them off as they have nowhere to go!

Staff

Cut them off if need be!

Will African cichlids (mbuna, haps and peacocks) eat these plants? Thanks

Staff

Yes. Try anubias or microsoriums instead

All bulb go through a cool down period, during this time they shed all their leave and lay dormant. After a week or so they will begin to grow again :-)

Is this too big for a cold water small tank of 40L? If it is could you please recommend something which would be more suitable? Thank you

Staff

Its not too big but it is a tropical plant so it will not survive in cold water. All of our plants are Tropical plants.

Got this bulb a week ago no shoots yet completely buried in substrate is this correct

Staff

Do not bury bulbs. They will rot.

Only 1/3 deep in substrate

Bulb was doing well but now some of the stems, on what look like healthy leaves, are beginning to rot. What might cause this?

Staff

depends how long you've had it - bulbs do go through a dormant period and drop their leaves for a while. Try adding a couple of root tabs directly underneath it. I recommend Neutro TerraTabs
